Sight Control App Reviews
Okay, bare bones.
Basic settings, wish it had zoom.
Works as advertised
I have a lot of backlight in my office and this did the trick. Solved my problems for my video conferencing.
Thank you … your app really helped me adjust my webcam so that my Skype sessions were "visible" to the other party instead of the usuall dark images that were being transmitted due to my rooms lighting. FIVE STARS for a great app.
This is a fantastic software and the developer provided me with great support. With an accurate and elegant user interface, this app is a must if you want to get the most out of your Macs built-in webcam.
I had been looking for something to control the settings on my iMac 27" FaceTime camera. At certain times of day the lighting conditions get very bad and Sight Control helps by allowing me to make various adjustments to the camera to get a good facetime picture.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt seem to be able to change the video settings within Skype. Also, I wish it were possible to open the control panel automatically when starting a Skype call, or at least it would be good for the app to be able to remember its settings. Instead, its necessary to change the settings every time! In this day and age, apps like this should be much smarter.
Ive installed version 1.4 and it resolves all my problems with Skype. I set the control panel to read and write settings from the webcam at 3 secs and it worked flawlessly!!!! Great work Mactaris!!!! Thanks for the great app!!!
Wont open
Doesnt work on iOS 10.7.5. When I click on it, it doesnt even open. Waste of money.
I downloaded this app to control the saturation on my isight camera, which I have noticed is lower than it ought to be. It does the job well. But if I close Sight Control after closing Photobooth, the next time I open Photobooth, it will say "there is no connected camera." I usually have to restart to get it to recognize the camera again. So I dont use Sight Control as often as Id like to.
This app does what it says it does and has a clean/simple interface but has some reliability issues and poor usability. Reliability (2/5) When in manual mode, and in some applications, the aperture will occasionally reset back down to 0. (happens every few minutes in skype, and also sometimes when opening a new camera application) Occasionally, the controls will get "stuck", forcing you to restart the application. Usability (3/5) First of all, the sliders/controls dont make a lot of sense. For the exposure-time/shutter-speed, you are given a slider… but only the first 1/10th of the slider gives usable results making it hard to adjust the exposure time accurately. A better solution would be to use a stepper control, or limit the usable exposure time to the first 1/4th of the range. There is a control called "aperture"… but the webcams on most or all macbook/imacs have a fixed aperture if Im not mistaken. This is probably the ISO/gain/amplifier setting… and you have to hold down a stepper button to adjust it (takes 10 seconds to go through the entire range). a slider would have been much less frustrating to use here. Lot of features are "grayed out". Im guessing some features are available to certain models… i dont really know. (aperture/shutter priority mode and NR doesnt work on mine) Something like a Exposure-compensation setting would have been awesome to have since usually the auto-exposure is only off depending on your shirt color or background color.
I work in front of a dark background that always over-exposes my face terribly. This app completely solved the problem on my 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.5. Thanks for the wonderful app!
The screen shot shows options not available to the user. I purchased the product because the screenshot shows the tools I need. However, only a few of the tools are functional, the other tools shown are appearance adornments. Very misleading as this product offers very limited control. Hopefully the developers will make this item fully functional, right now it’s not. A waste of money and time.
I bought this because my iSight camera seemed to be stuck with a black picture; obviously something wrong with the auto exposure setting. So I took a chance and bought this app thinking it might help - it was $5, and I wanted the options it offered anyway. Opening Sight Control and lo & behold, my exposure is set to manual and cranked all the way to darkness. I set it to auto, closed Sight Control, and everything using the camera showed a perfect picture - well, a sort of perfect picture. So I went back into Sight Control and tuned the settings just right for my setup, including turning off backlight adjustment, and I ended up with a much better picture for conferencing. The details and contrast is much better. Obviously, if I move the laptop I need to re-tune it, but by default it runs as a menubar item so it’s easy to get to. The bad side of this app is the options that aren’t available; Some settings don’t work, which I imagine depends on the camera model you have in your Mac, but it’s frustrating to see the options in the screenshot and not being able to use them once you get the app. It’s also a bit clumsy - But it’s the functionality that counts. Basically, if you want some control over iSight contrast, brightness, and other settings, this is a easy way to improve your outgoing iSight video.
My new 5K iMac had an extremely disturbing blue tint with its built-in iSight camera. Its disappointing for such an expensive machine. However, this program solved the problem. I unchecked the auto white balance temperature, and moved the slider until the color cast disappeared. I didnt even have to end the FaceTime conversation. All setting adjustments are immediate. This app really works, and even after quitting it, the settings stay.
Note (as I should have) that nearly all the settings are greyed out for the FaceTime HD camera that comes in a MacBook Pro. No gain or exposure adjustments (which actually affect how the sensor performs) are usable. The brightness and contrast settings only affect the image after it’s been captured, which makes them useless. Waste of $5.
As with the other 1 star review below, downloaded the Sight Control ap and it did absolutely nothing except install, take my money, and provide me with a totally grayed out and non functional interface on my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. Total waste of $5 and cant even figure out how to get an credited uninstall or refund. Be way careful
most frustrating is that it doesn’t have a preview window. do i need to launch a different application to view the effect of my settings? second most frustrating is that it doesn’t offer to control my USB camera (which is not an isight camera but is UVC compliant).
DOESN’T WORK FOR MACBOOKS WITH RETINA SCREENS
Doesn’t work for FaceTime cameras on MacBooks with retina screens. And the same for this company’s other app, “Camera Control”.
Due to light configuration in my room it was practicall impossible to use Skype on my new iMac 5K. All people could see is a big white area instead of my face and a perfectly balanced picture of a back wall on my room. It drove me mad that Apple doesn’t allow users to control camera settings. This app however for just $5 allowed me to adjust brightness and contrast (and bunch of other settings) and I was able to fix all the light issues I had. I also played with saturation and hue to achieve more natural colors. Great app!
DOES NOT WORK WITH CATALINA
I'm not sure why Apple allows this to be listed without noting it doesn't work with its most recent OSes.
Does not work with Catalina
Since Apple ditched 32-bit in its new 64-bit Catalina OS, this application can no longer work until a new version is released. Apple's next OS really needs to include the ability to use 32-bit software or at least have a way to integrate old 32-bit software into this new 64-bit only environment.
Doesn't work on Catalina
The App store indicates that this app is compatible with my Mac but it is not. The camera does not register in the app. After troubleshooting it seems that this has been true since at least mid last year.
Waste of five bucks
When I open it, I get a "control panel" with all the controls grayed out. That's it. That's the app. I am unable to adjust anything for the built-in webcam in my Macbook, or for the cam in my Apple Cinema Display, nothing in Zoom or Facetime. Completely useless! Can I get a refund?
dont waste your money!!
it does not work. the only 2 options i was able to adjust were the read and write from your webcam. the rest of the options are there but grayed out so u cannot use them.. id ask for a refund but i know how tight Apple is
Didn't read the reviews, should have
This app doesn't appear to support 2019 or newer macbooks. All options are greyed out.
Does not work at all
Zero fucntionality.
Horrible
After upgrading to OS Catalina Sight control completely stopped working. It is simply grayed out. 0 starts if possible
Waste of money
I need to be able to control my Mac Camera settings for video conferencing. I don't want to have to set up stage lighting just so people can see me on video calls. First of all disappointed, for as expensive as the computers are, that Apple didn't even include basic camera setting programming. Then this thing costs $5 and NONE of the controls work. They are all grayed out. I would give it a zero if I could.
Does NOT work with Catalina
Don't watse your money
Does not work on modern macs
Don't buy it I want a refund.
Doesn't work with Catalina 10.15.5
Just bought. Total waste of money!
Does what it is supposed to
On my old 2009 iMac, the built-in iSight camera didn’t look great on all the video conferences I was doing. I figured for $5 I would give this a shot. It really made a huge difference. I made a preset pretty easily that look a lot better than letting the camera set itself.
Doesn't work anymore
I used to use this but it no longer works...
Not compatible with Catelina OS
No longer works at all after OS update
app no longer works
needs to be removed from the app store
Didn't work
Could never figure out how to make it adjust the camera. While the store says it is compatible with 10.15.3 Catalina I don't think it is.
Doesn't work at all
I can loat the app, but there is nothing avalable to adjust. I've been through the help site wich is not at all helpful and seems to be a completely different app than I just downloaded. What a waste of $5.
Doesn't work
All the controls are grayed out in the app on my 2017 iMac. I even tryed restarting the computer.
Doesn't detect any cameras
This app doesn't work. It does not detect the built in camera or the attached Logitech, which is listed as supported.
Doesn't Work On macOS Catalina/Macbook Pro
Based on the App Store listing Mac OS X 10.6 or higher compatibility, I rashly clicked 'buy' before reading other reviews. An iSight tweeting tool published in 2013 not working with macOS 10.15 in 2020 shouldn't be a surprise, so my bad for not taking 60 seconds for due dilligence. At launch, it doesn't detect the built-in iSight camera on my Macbook Pro, so naturally all of the controls within the GUI are disabled. The fact that blog spam has been accumulating on the "support page" after Oct 2019 suggests that the author has abandoned this app.
Do NOT Buy, No Longer Supported
This didn;t work for my onboard iMac's Webcam in WebEx, Skype, Google Hangout, or pretty much anywhere. It also didn't work for myLogitech HD Pro USB webcam. It doesn't see any cams and stays gryed out. I went to their website and saw a different app. So maybe they're NOT supporting this one anymore.
No longer works?
This does not appear to work with the latest Mac OS updates or Facetime HD cameras or both. The app installs, but everything's greyed out and not configurable.
Does Not Work
Does not work with MacOS Catalina. Can't access Facetime camera
No longer works!
This should not be in the app store. Does not work with MBP running Catalina.
DON'T BUY
App doesn't work in latest versions of OSX. Don't waste your money.
NO LONGER WORKS!!
I purchased this a few months ago to replace iGlasses which stopped working with Mojave. After upgrading to Catalina it stopped working and all controls are grey. It no longer works. I have tried writing the developer with no response. Do not waste your money. This should not be in the App Store. Until the developer fixes this App, this review will stand hopefully to stop others from purchasing. Old review: This works on my 2014 iMac. After I upgraded to Mojave the iGlasses software that I had purchased from ecamm (not from within the App store) no longer worked. Now, once again, I am able to brighten, sharpen, etc. the terrible built-in camera when I use PhotoBooth and Facetime.
Odd performance and no support
This will not work well with your built in Mac HC camera. Half the controls aren't available to it. Also, I noticed it locked up some major apps like Photo Booth and OBS after I installed. Look for something else.
Doesn’t work on new MacBook
All of the controls are grayed out on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports). The Facetime HD Camera is selected (the only one I have) and no controls work. How do I get a refund?
Didn’t Work For Me, but I got a Refund.
I have a 2017 Macbook Pro with Touchbar & FaceTIme webcam, and this app did not work. It ran, displayed an icon in the menu bar, but all of the functions were grayed out. Customer support did not resolve my issue, but I was able to get a refund eventually
Does not work. Everything grayed out.
This app is non-functional on a Macbook Pro w/ touchbar. Complete waste. It’s criminal that this was allowed to be installed.
Good
Good
Completely Worthless
I bought this based on forum recommendations to control my built-in MacBook Pro camera (which I can’t believe has no native controls). None of the controls work; they are all greyed out. This doesn’t allow you to adjust anything. Save your cash
Does not work on 2016 MacBook Pro
Wasted $5 trying this out. It’s a scandal that Apple doesn’t provide these settings natively. Too bad this program doesn’t do it either.
Worthless
Don’t waste your money. Some reviews reference a zoom feature. Doesn’t happen.
Okay, bare bones.
Basic settings, wish it had zoom.
Awesome! Fixed my iMac 5K camera problems
Due to light configuration in my room it was practicall impossible to use Skype on my new iMac 5K. Sight (NO) control

Kind of a hassle to use.

Perfect!!!!!!
I've installed version 1.4 and it resolves all my problems with Skype. I set the control panel to read and write settings from the webcam at 3 secs and it worked flawlessly!!!! Great work Mactaris!!!! Thanks for the great app!!!
